the cinerama dome

The World-Famous Cinerama Dome is a Hollywood institution. It was built in 1963 - the first new movie theater in Hollywood in 33 years. Constructed with prefabricated pieces, the theater was built in just 16 weeks. It opened with the premiere of Stanley Kramer’s It’s a Mad, Mad, Mad, Mad World on November 7, 1963.

The original piece was created with Sakura Pigma Micron 003 archival ink pens on Bristol board over the course of 130 hours. It has approximately 2 million dots. Theater and marquee options were inked separately, scanned at high resolution, and digitally stitched together.
